Senior Data Engineer - Hydra Platform

Own healthcare integration and pipeline delivery across Hydra Connect and Hydra Platform, turning hospital data feeds into reliable, governed clinical and operational workflows.

Madrid, Spain Hybrid Full-time

About TietAI

TietAI builds the data platform European hospitals rely on to unlock clinical and operational insights from fragmented systems. Hydra Connect is our healthcare integration engine, and Hydra Platform is our agentic pipeline engine with a visual builder. They deploy inside hospital environments and bridge EHRs, LIS, RIS/PACS, administrative systems, and cross-border data networks under the European Health Data Space.

The role

We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer to own integration and pipeline delivery on top of Hydra Connect and Hydra Platform. You will turn a hospital's tangle of HL7 feeds, FHIR endpoints, DICOM nodes, X12 files, and legacy exports into reliable, governed data flowing through Hydra, then build the agentic pipelines clinical users rely on. You will also be the technical partner for a mid-level data engineer joining alongside you, and a voice in how Hydra Connect and Hydra Platform evolve.

What you will do

Hydra Connect - data integration

  • Design and operate integration channels inside Hydra Connect, including source connectors, transformers, filters, and destinations for HL7 v2, FHIR R4, DICOM / DICOMweb, CDA, X12/EDI, IHE PCD, IHE XDS.b, and flat-file exports.
  • Deploy Hydra Connect in hub-spoke topologies across hospital sites, tuning the NATS / Kafka / gRPC / Redis backbone for each customer's network and latency profile.
  • Lead Mirth Connect migrations: parse existing Mirth channel XML, port it into Hydra Connect pipelines, and retire the legacy engine without gaps in message flow.
  • Enforce multi-tenant isolation with organization-scoped writes and JWT tenant stamping, and design DLQ / replay strategies hospital ops teams can actually use.

Hydra Platform - pipeline creation

  • Build agentic pipelines in Hydra Platform's visual builder, stitching Connect-ingested data into clinical and operational workflows such as patient sync, coding assistance, cohort building, reporting, and anomaly detection.
  • Extend Hydra with new pipeline nodes and handlers when customer needs outrun what the visual builder offers today.
  • Own audit logging, RBAC, and compliance validation for the pipelines we ship, with GDPR and EHDS built in from the start.

Cross-cutting work

  • Partner with hospital IT, clinical informatics, and security teams to navigate access, networking, identity, and governance.
  • Mentor a mid-level Data Engineer and establish channel and pipeline review practices and on-call procedures.
  • Turn recurring integration friction into reusable Connect connectors and Hydra nodes so the next deployment is faster than the last.

What we are looking for

  • 5-8 years as a Data Engineer, Integration Engineer, or Platform Engineer.
  • Production experience with Go systems. Hydra Connect and Hydra Platform are both Go services.
  • Strong SQL and PostgreSQL, plus solid Python for tooling, data work, and agent/ML services.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one healthcare integration engine such as Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, InterSystems Ensemble/HealthShare, NextGen Connect, Iguana, or equivalent.
  • Real experience with HL7 v2 and FHIR R4, including parsing, building, mapping, Z-segments, non-conformant feeds, and profile drift.
  • Experience with event or streaming backbones such as NATS or Kafka, and multi-tenant system design.
  • Experience deploying into customer-controlled environments, including on-prem, private cloud, or hybrid setups.
  • Comfort with Kubernetes, containerised deployments, restricted hospital networks, ArgoCD, and GitOps.
  • Clear communication in English. Spanish is a strong plus given our customer base.

Nice to have

  • Built or migrated Mirth Connect channels at scale.
  • Experience with DICOM / DICOMweb, PACS integration, or imaging workflows.
  • Experience with X12/EDI or national claims standards.
  • Exposure to OMOP, openEHR, SNOMED CT, ICD-10 / CIE-10, or UMLS.
  • Familiarity with EHDS, GDPR, Spanish LOPDGDD, ENS, or HIPAA.
  • Experience designing pipelines or workflow tools consumed by clinicians, analysts, or other non-engineers.
  • Mentoring engineers or leading small teams.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary.
  • Hybrid work, office-based in Madrid, with regular travel to customer hospital sites.
  • Private health insurance, pension, and standard benefits.
  • A senior, product-minded team and real ownership over Hydra Connect and Hydra Platform as they scale.
  • Learning budget, conference allowance, and hardware of your choice.
